New stimulus deal? Bravo yourself
Pressure is mounting on Friday as Congress and the White House enter another round of negotiations to help combat the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Policy priorities for Democrats and Republicans are more apparent in the latest package, as members of both parties congregate in their respective political corners. Democrats are seeking a $ 3 trillion plan while Sen. Mitch McConnell’s $ 1 trillion offer he unveiled this week is being rejected by some in his party who say it’s too much. Another key point of the talks? Whether it will last another $ 600 extra that some 30 million unemployed Americans received as part of their unemployment benefits.
The new GOP plan includes another check for Americans and ongoing assistance for the unemployed.

The newly formed Isaias targets the East Coast
After shredding parts of the Caribbean with rain and wind, Isaias formed into a hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said residents could feel the effects of the storm early next week. He encouraged everyone to prepare by having at least seven days of supplies.
Eid celebrations began globally
Muslims around the globe will begin Eid celebrations on Friday this week. Eid al-Adha is Arabic for the “festival of sacrifice” and is the second of the two main Muslim holidays (the other is Eid al-Fitr). It is the holiday that marks the end of the Hajj season, or pilgrimage season, that takes place in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Eid Eid commemorates the “sacrifice” required of Abraham by God, to sacrifice his son, only for God to intervene and replace a ram (or lamb) in place. Nowadays, animals, usually goats, cows and lambs, are still sacrificed to mark the occasion. Meat from sacrificed animals is shared with communities and food bank areas where there are poor or insecure Muslims from food.

Ready for more? The NBA resume moves forward with a schedule full of blockages
Okay, so the viewer experience on TV was a bit unusual. But it’s great to get the NBA back. Thursday’s return featured two thrillers – Utah defeated the New Orleans 106-104 and the Los Angeles Lakers cut the Clippers 103-101. Given the circumstances of a global pandemic and league trying to do everything we can to end the season safely and limit COVID-19 cases to its Disney campus, we can still enjoy fanless games – in all their difficulty. Friday’s lineup is made up of six games, including a major Eastern Conference clash between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics (6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
