LYNCHBURG, Va. – We could not make this story if we were to try.
Last week, we introduced you to a cat named Dennis Quaid at the Lynchburg Human Association in need of a home forever as part of our Clean Shelters initiative.
This weekend, he will make his trip to that house, but you may not believe who is adopting him.
“It was really off the wall, but I just couldn’t resist. I have to,” said Dennis Quaid.
Quaid could not pass up adopting the little boy by his name from the Lynchburg Human Society.
“I̵7;m out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world,” Quaid said.
The name certainly sparked a lot of buzz as 10 News featured Dennis Quaid during a past weekly announcement.
That story caught the attention of the actor, musician and now, the Hollywood podcast.
“We also have the pet show that Jimmy [Jellinek] here I’m doing and I’m executive producing it, and it really turned out to be one of my favorites, “Quaid said.
A sheltered cat with his name, plus a pet podcast, equals the perfect adoption story.
Such a good story, the housing staff did not believe it at first.
“I felt like there was no way it could be true, like, someone is joking with us,” said Danielle Ulmer, Lynchburg Humane Society, Manager of the Adoption Center.
“We arrived at the shelter. It took us a while for them to really trust us, “said Jimmy Jellinek, co-host of The Pet Show.
After Jellinek convinced the shelter staff that he and Quaid were not online trolls or crazy people, they met Dennis Quaid, the cat, through Zoom.
This weekend Jellinek will fly from Los Angeles to Lynchburg to pick up new office animals.
“Maybe they should start naming animals at shelters after different celebrities and see who bites,” Quaid said.
“We’ve already talked about it. We’re fine, so everyone chooses your three favorite celebrities,” Ulmer said.
