Andrew Yang says he will speak at the Democratic congress after expressing surprise that he was not asked

“And it’s official – we’ve been added to the DNC Convention speaker line-up!” Yang wrote on Twitter, thanking his devoted followers known as “Yang Gang”.

He confirmed in a separate tweet that his speech is scheduled for around 9pm ET next Thursday – the fourth and final night of the DNC.

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna from California said on Twitter that “it is absurd” to exclude Yang from the list of speakers “given the campaign he led”.

His fellow Democrat from California, Ted Lieu, also responded to the news, saying the absence of Asian-American speakers at the DNC is “a slap in the face.”

;

“Dear @DNC: Asian Americans are the fastest growing group in America, including in some fast-paced countries. The gross underrepresentation of Asian American speakers in the four days of the DNC Convention is a dull tone and a slap in the face. “tweet Lieu.

A businessman, Yang rose from the darkness to become a highly visible candidate, amassing a coalition of liberal Democrats, liberals and some disgruntled Republicans. He defended the unique positions of politics as a basic universal income and his campaign slogan was “Make America Think More”, with the acronym MATH.

Yang ended his presidential campaign in February after a disappointing ending in Iowa groups.
He endorsed Joe Biden in March, calling him “the right man for the job to help us not only defeat Donald Trump, but govern the country in the years to come.”

Political conventions typically contain four days of full programming, but the coronavirus pandemic forced this year’s Democratic event to condense into two hours of primary coverage over four nights.

Several former presidential candidates for 2020 are scheduled to speak including Sens. Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

The congress is scheduled to take place from August 17-20.
