Another bus driver attacked the masking rule

– An Asian-American bus driver was trying to enforce a mask requirement when he was beaten with a wooden stick, according to San Francisco police. The driver for the San Francisco (Muni) Municipal Railroad had asked three passengers – possibly teenagers – to get off the bus when one allegedly spat at the driver and hit him several times with a miniature baseball bat, for guardian. 7;s attack “did not show that racing was a factor,” according to NBC News. However, the unidentified driver tells them guardian that the youngsters referred to his race, with one claiming he was likely to have coronavirus. The driver says the men initially agreed to his request to put on masks that hung from his chin, but removed their face masks as soon as the bus moved.

When the men finally got out, one of the group opened a panel on the side of the bus, the driver says. When the driver got out, the man allegedly spat at her, hit her twice with a stick and hit her twice in the face. “I keep thinking to myself: that stick he pulled from his backpack could easily have been a gun,” says the driver, who suffered a broken finger. Police say the men fled “in an unknown direction”. No arrests have been made. The president of the union representing drivers Muni says they had to endure verbal attacks and racial slurs “on a daily basis” during the pandemic, for guardian. However, the driver describes a recent verbal attack, including racial noise, against two Asian-American passengers who tried to help him enforce the mask rule.
