Californians were asked to conserve energy on Friday due to the heat



The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has issued a Flex Alert nationwide. ISO is urging people across the state to voluntarily conserve electricity from 03:00 – 22:00 on Friday, August 14th. The National Weather Service has issued overtime hours and warnings for parts of California. A heating tip has been issued for parts of Santa Cruz County and an excessive heat warning has been given for most of San Benito and Monterey counties. Prolonged heat for several days in a row is expected to boost demand for higher electricity, as night temperatures are also forecast to be above average. ISO recommends that people use main appliances before 3pm and after 1

0pm and set air conditioner thermostats to 78 degrees or higher. A Flex warning is issued by the ISO when the power grid is under stress due to interruptions in generation or transmission, or from persistently hot temperatures.
