There are multiple groups of infections, including 5 distinct groups of restaurants; however, each includes several employees at single locations, and no transfers to customers have been identified at this time. A potluck employee at Honolulu Hale is a potential source of transmission for 11 cases of illness between Honolulu City and County employees.
Director of State Health Dr Bruce Anderson said, “An important factor to keep in mind is, community-related infections continue to be responsible for the increase in COVID-19 cases in the past half week. The virus is transmitted though the dots, and that is why wearing masks and distance is so important. We should all continue these and other safe practices. “The department is investigating these cases and is working with these institutions on quarantine and prevention measures for their staff. There is no danger to the public at this time and there are no cases beyond workers. As more information becomes available it will be distributed.
Anderson also expressed condolences to the family and friends of the four O’ahu men; recent victims of the disease. The deaths of two of the men, both over 60, were reported on Tuesday but were included in the case count today. The third and fourth deaths reported today are men 40-59 years old, at least one of whom had basic health conditions. Investigations into all the deaths are ongoing. The death toll in Hawaii from COVID-19 is now 38.
