“Where is the iPhone 12?” This is what everyone will be asking us on Tuesday, September 8th when the new iPads and Apple Watch 6 arrive without a new iPhone.
This is at least our analysis of the collective response of the world if sometimes Apple right-wing Jon Prosser has nailed the timeline. He tweeted a list of weeks that Apple is expected to announce and release new devices.
Not good news if you hardly want to get your hands on the rumored iPhone 12 Pro 5G. This version will come last in the scheme of things.
If true, the Apple Watch 6 and the new iPads will come first ̵1; the week of September 7th – and arrive in a much smaller way than normal due to the Covid-19, potentially as revealed stealthily through the press release, as we saw with the iPhone SE 2020 in March.
Now, assuming the Prosser release window is correct, we are fully expecting the date to be Tuesday, September 8, because September 7 is a Monday and holiday in the US (Labor Day). Alsoshte also the timeline that Apple usually has with a major launch event. But no new iPhone is mentioned for this first release date.
Note: we do not expect “new iPads” to include high-end Pro models. We got an iPad Pro 2020 in March, setting the stage for an iPad Pro 2021 with 5G. Instead, the mid-range iPads – iPad Air 4 and iPad mini 6 – that are expected to be launched next.
User on iPhone 12 delay
The iPhone 12 launch date is said to be five weeks later, the week of October 12 (it could be Tuesday, October 13). This is not a big surprise, as Apple, in its profit call last month, made the rare move of announcing the iPhone 12 delay.
The unveiling of the iPhone 12 is said to be coming to an event ‘. Whether this is an initial in-person event or another ‘Apple live stream’ video as we saw it with WWDC 2020 remains to be seen. We are waiting for four versions of the new iPhone to appear.
Some pre-orders are issued the same week – we are forecasting on Friday, October 16th. Apple has a history of submitting orders Friday immediately after a launch event. And the iPhone 12 will reportedly go on sale next week – on Friday, September 23rd.
But, according to Prosser, the high-end iPhone 12 Pro will not be available in October whatever. Instead, this version will take a pre-release date and release in November, with the flow saying “no exact date yet” is “in the system”.
November is too late for a new iPhone, especially the versions (we expect two sizes) that early adopters want. The Pro is said to have the fastest 5G speeds, bigger screens and better cameras.
But this is not the first time in recent history that Apple’s latest and largest iPhone has dropped in November. The iPhone X was launched on Friday, November 3, 2017.
Prosser nailed the release date of the iPhone SE 2020 and had the iMac 27-inch (2020) announcement ahead of time, but he got a lot of inaccurate Apple WWDC leaks, and notes that dates could always change at the end of Apple.
