LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid left Sunday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers in the first quarter with a left foot injury and ruled out he could return.
Embiid seemed to hit his left foot on the stamp under the basket in the middle of the first quarter. After a time locked in the media with 6:18 to move into the quarter, Embiid slowly switched to the Philadelphia bench and sat in the coach’s assistant seat right next to the scoreboard. He appeared to be in some pain, grabbing his left leg and getting upset as he was watched by the team coaching staff.
He was then walking around and talking to players and staff, including assistant coach Ime Udoka, and initially went and sat in his seat in the back row of the Philadelphia bench. Almost as soon as he sat down, however, he got up again and walked out of the bench area and back into the closet room.
Then, late in the second quarter, he was sent off for the remainder of the game. Embiid returned to the bench in the third quarter.
Embiid had two points in the 1-for-6 shot and four rebounds in 5:42 before leaving the game.
