This weekend, Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will be battling one last time to determine not only the world heavyweight champion, but also the biggest UFC heavyweight champion of all time. And although this fight is far from a predetermined end, what seems to be set in stone is the next heavyweight title fight after that: Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou II.
In the lead up to UFC 252, Daniel Cormier has made it clear that this will be his last professional fight, which means that if DC DC ‘wins the title, he will end up leaving the sport at the top and relax the belt. If that happens, UFC President Dana White says Miocic̵7;s working body would certainly rate him as one of two contenders for the vacant title.
“That probably. It would be hard to deny Stipe,” White told The Schmo. “We are saying that this Saturday, the biggest weight in the biggest weight ever is the winner of this battle, so to say he is not good enough for another fight for the free title would be crazy. “.
This sounds like good news for Miocic who is in a lossless situation. If Miocic beats Cormier on Saturday, he would definitely still be champion and thus continue his reign, and if he loses, he still has to get back there right away. And in any case, according to White, Miocic’s opponent for the fight for the next title will be a well-known enemy, Francis Ngannou.
“Francesco is next,” White said. “Again, we will see what happens on Saturday and then yes, Francesco is the boy.”
So all this should lead to the inevitable conclusion that Miocic-Ngannou II is in the ranks for heavyweight sharing. Unless, of course, Cormier retires. And although Cormier has been convinced he would like to come out on top, speaking to ESPN after the UFC 252 press conference, Bardha is just as convinced that this will not be the last we see in DC.
“No, it’s not (Cormier’s last fight),” White told ESPN. “No it is not. It is clear that it will depend on how the fight unfolds on Saturday night. If Cormier wins in spectacular fashion, this will not be his last fight. And knowing that the way I do, if he loses, it will be, “I can not come out like this.”
“You know me: When people start talking about retirement, I think I should. Stipe, who people said was likely to retire even after that, but he crashed tonight, I do not think any of them should “They are retired. They are two of the best in the world, and they still have a lot left. But we will see. We will see how the war continues on Saturday.”
UFC 252 takes place this Saturday at the APEX UFC in Las Vegas, Nev.
