Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become the 2nd best-selling game in Japan of all time, breaking Pokémon Gold and Silver after 21unbleached years.
Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons is continuing its dominance, as it has now become the second best-selling game in Japan of all time. The holder of the previous record was none other than Game Freak Pokemon Gold and silver, which was released almost 21 years ago. Meanwhile, the best seller number was the previous one Pokemon Title (s), Pokemon Red and blue
original Pokemon Gold and silver released in Japan back in November 1999 and quickly became one of the best-selling video games not only on Game Boy Boy Color, but on all fifth-generation systems (which included the original Playstation and Nintendo 64). Despite selling less than before Pokemon generation, both original Pokemon Gold and silver and its filming Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver generally considered the best Pokemon games ever made, and have been consistently praised by fans in a variety of ways.

After two decades in second place, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has received the title from Pokemon Gold and silver. Recently, Animal Crossing: The New Horizon became the second best-selling Nintendo Switch title, and according to a tweet from the Game Data Library, it is now also the second best-selling game in Japan, across all platforms. A subsequent tweet claims that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold over 7.5 million units since its release, clearing Pokemon Gold and silver7.17 million.
Since June New Horizons has sold over 350k units domestically, so sales as of today are over 7.5 million.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has only been on the market for a few months, much less time than Pokemon Gold and silver, however it has already been blown away by many other well-known critical titles like e.g. Super Mario Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and did it in much less time. The Game Database suggests that Animal Crossing: New Horizons“the moment is not falling, it means he could get the original Pokemon Red and blue for the best-selling video game in Japan of all time.
Of course, with such a dedicated and creative fanbase to keep the game alive, it’s easy to imagine Animal Crossing: New Horizons eventually hitting the 10 million mark, perhaps even faster than later. Using Game Data Library information, Animal Crossing: New Horizons it takes about 2.5 million more units to become the best-selling best-selling game of all time in Japan, which on paper seems feasible. Considering how accessible the game is to almost everyone, and combined with the fact that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has resulted in many people playing more video games, everything seems to be in place for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to add another historical summary to its already impressive resume.
Although, it is also possible for the game to reach a point where everyone in Japan who would like to play it either already has a copy, or can not get their hands on a Nintendo Switch to play it. It’s hard to say which result is the most likely of the two, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons it certainly has the advantage, as the output is heated Pokemon Red and blue ceased long ago while Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still early in its life cycle, and has years of support ahead of it.
