Nvidia is harassing a mysterious August 31 announcement. The graphics card maker is hinting at a possible event on Twitter today, with a post saying simply “#UltimateCountdown”, accompanied by a video of a star going to the supernova. Nvidia has also updated the image of its GeForce Twitter account head with another teaser that mentions “21 days. 21 years ”
The supernova mix makes it clear that everything Nvidia is planning to announce will be great news and could come in 21 days time. The Nvidia influencer comes just days after rumors suggested the company could plan to launch its new Ampere graphics cards on September 9th. Nvidia is rumored to be releasing RTX 3000 series cards and apparently a successor to the GeForce RTX 3080 to RTX 2080.
Wccftech also speculates that the 21-year calculation reference may be related to the original GeForce 256 GPU. It has been almost 21 years since the GeForce 256 was launched back in 1999, and Wccftech notes that if you multiply 256 by 21 you get 5.376, which is a base number that was recently discovered.
Nvidia unveiled its Ampere GPU architecture in May, but the first graphics card was built for science computing, cloud graphics, and data analytics. We still do not know exactly what Ampere GPUs will bring to traditional PC games, but we may be ready to find out by the end of the month.
