The Orange County Health Agency reported 565 new cases of coronavirus as of Sunday, Aug. 9, bringing the county total to 39,641 cases.
The agency noted that the Exchange of Reportable Disease Information in California has been experiencing problems with the app receiving test reports from labs and then sending them to CalREDIE. The state Department of Health is trying to resolve the issue, which may have resulted in a lower number of daily accepted COVID-19 cases and recently reported tests. On Monday, the agency reported more than 17,000 tests that were overdue.
It is estimated that more than half of the reported cases, or 29,931 as of Sunday, are people who have recovered. The recovery number is based on the counting of cumulative issues before 28 days.
There were 6 new deaths reported in Orange County on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 726.
Of the 726 deaths, 284 were skilled residents of nursing institutions, 38 were in assisted living environments and one was listed as homeless.
According to the California Department of Health, there have been at least 4,710 new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County in the last 14 days.
The county reports 474,144 tests for the virus have been provided since the start of local tracking in March. There were at least 14,665 tests given Sunday.
The county reported Sunday that 487 people with the coronavirus were hospitalized, including 163 people in intensive care.
The state coronavirus tracking panel shows that Orange County had at least 43% of its ICU beds available on Sunday.
The division of deaths by county age is as follows:
- 85 years and older: 31% (225)
- 75-84: 23% (163)
- 65-74: 19% (142)
- 55-64: 13% (91)
- 45-54: 9% (68)
- 35-44: 3% (24)
- 25-34: 1.5% (10)
- 18-24: <1% (3)
