A new contract for the San Francisco 49ers George Kittle’s tight end may not be done yet, but it looks like the wait will not last much longer.
According to the NFL Network, the 49ers and Kittle are finalizing a deal that will make Kittle the tightest paid end in the league “so far”.
A report from SI.com earlier in the day indicated that a new deal for Kittle will be announced on Friday. Kittle himself apparently took issue with that characterization on his Twitter account afterwards saying, “You will believe everything you read online.” More reports followed that said that while an agreement had not yet been made, it seemed as if progress towards an agreement was being made. It now appears that progress has been reached in the final stages of negotiations.
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is holding the highest average salary for the position at $ 10.6 million this year on the franchise label. However, the four-year contract Austin Hooper signed with the Cleveland Browns this offseason worth $ 42 million is the position’s multi-year deal.
