LOS ANGELES – Simon Cowell underwent surgery to repair a broken back as a result of an electric bike accident and was recovering in a hospital, a spokesman said Sunday.

The entertainment mogul was “doing well” and remained under observation after surgery at an unidentified hospital, the spokesman said. Cowell’s partner, Lauren Silverman, accompanied him to the hospital and has been able to see him briefly. Cowell̵7;s six-hour surgery, six hours involved the placement of a metal rod.
Despite the difficulty, he gave the strength to send a “massive thanks” to the doctors and nurses who treated him. Cowell, known for his harsh language comments about contestants, also shared some tips.
“If you buy a bike with electric rails, read the manual before riding it for the first time,” he tweeted.
The couple’s son and Silverman’s child from a previous marriage were with Cowell when the accident happened. Cowell’s injury will force him to miss the start of this season’s live show on NBC’s “NBC of Got’s Talent.” Live performances will begin Tuesday and Wednesday without him, the network said.
He created the talent show, now in its 15th season, and serves as a judge. The other judges of the show are Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara, with Terry Crews as host.
