Tesla hints at more collaboration with SpaceX as it adds “spaceships” to possible future products to work on for its future designers.
We recently reported how Tesla and SpaceX are increasing synergies with more workers moving between companies and more equipment purchases between them.
Now Tesla is hinting at ongoing collaboration between the two companies.
In a new role of old car designer listed on her career page (direct suggestion to you / Tdoesstuff), Tesla cited the “ship model” as a possible task:
Using your considerable production design experience and innovative thinking, you will be primarily tasked with creating designs for future cars, but may also be called upon for other design tasks (product modeling, spaceship design, etc.) based on your ability. Our design team prides itself on being highly talented and flexible, and we look for the same in our potential candidates. You will report to the Senior Director of Vehicle Design, and this position resides at Tesla Design Studio in Hawthorne, California.
The position is located in Tesla’s Hawthorne Design Studio, which is directly adjacent to SpaceX headquarters.
That mention in the new job rankings comes as SpaceX is developing Starship, a fully reusable vehicle for lifting super heavy vehicles and large space space.
It is expected to be the vehicle that SpaceX will use to colonize Mars and CEO Elon Musk has also talked about using the spacecraft for extremely fast voyages to Earth from and to various space spaces.
If Tesla ends up creating some features of the new spacecraft, they would not be the first Tesla products inside the vehicle.
Earlier this year, we reported on SpaceX using Tesla battery packs in the new prototype vehicle “Starship” Mars.
Moreover, Tesla and SpaceX have a joint team of materials to create new materials to be used on Earth and in space.
This is not very surprising. I expect there will be a lot of design work at Starship that SpaceX is not used to doing.
We are talking about living quarters and things of the kind.
While this is not exactly Tesla’s expertise, it is much closer to a car than it is to rockets.
As an example, it is rumored that Tesla assisted SpaceX in the interior design, particularly the locations, of the Dragon Dragon spacecraft that was recently used to transport astronauts to the space station.
The new list of jobs could also be an extension of this. Will see.
