MOTZA, Israel – An Israeli jewelry company is working on what it says will be the most expensive coronavirus mask in the world, a $ 1.5 million gold-plated diamond face.
The 18-carat white gold mask will be adorned with 3,600 white and black diamonds and will be equipped with the highest rated N99 filters at the request of the buyer, said designer Isaac Levy.
Levy, owner of the Yvel company, said the buyer had two other requirements: to be completed by the end of the year, and that it would be the most valuable in the world. This last condition, he said, “was easier to meet.”
He declined to identify the buyer, but said he was a Chinese businessman living in the United States.
The glossy face mask can give a little pizzazz to the protective devices now mandatory in public spaces in many places. But at 270 grams (over a pound) ̵1; almost 100 times more than a typical surgical mask – it is unlikely to be a practical accessory to wear.
In an interview at his factory near Jerusalem, Levy showed off some parts of the mask, covered in diamonds. A gold plate had a hole for the filter.
“Money probably does not buy everything, but if he can buy a very expensive COVID-19 mask and the boy wants to wear it and walk around and get attention, he should be happy with that,” Levy said.
Such an impressive mask can also rub a wrong path at a time when millions of people around the world are out of work or suffering economically. Levy said that while he would not wear it himself, he was thankful for the opportunity.
“I’m happy that this mask gave us enough work for our employees to be able to secure their jobs in very challenging times like these times now,” he said.
