The mural for black life was moved to Spokane, Washington

The 140-meter mural is on the side of a downtown building in Spokane, Washington – partly sponsored by Terrain, a nonprofit arts venue. Terren, along with digital advertising agencies 14Four and Seven2, hired 16 artists to decorate and paint each letter on the Black Lives Matter, according to a collaboration with CNN KXLY.

For some, however, it was offensive. The mural, completed less than two weeks ago, was vandalized on Wednesday.

But the community is not allowing the negative response to hamper efforts. A fundraiser to restore the mural has already raised more than $ 10,000.

“It took dozens of people working lovingly to make this project happen, and only one or two were filled with hatred to defend it,”
; Terrain said in a statement posted on Facebook. “We surpass them, but we can not be silent.”

Artist Nicholas Sironka designed and painted the “A” on the “Black” mural, a paper that took on traces of white paint. He was not surprised that the mural was vandalized, he told CNN.

“I just feel that the whole issue of black life now makes more sense to me, unity of purpose. Everyone is united in one goal and that is eradicating inequality and injustice and all those things that are done,” he said. .

Kiantha Duncan, vice president of the NAACP Spokane chapter, said she had a visceral reaction to seeing the photos.

“This is extremely scary,” Duncan told the local KHQ news station. “When the words ‘Black Wool of Life’ are enough to upset people in a city so badly that they not only protest against it, but destroy the words themselves on the side of a building.”
Sgt. Terry Preuninger, a Spokane police spokesman, told the local exit the Department Spokesperson-Review had become aware of the vandalism through the media but had not confirmed whether a formal complaint had been lodged.

This is not the only BLM mural that has become defective in recent weeks. In Spokane, a wall of George Floyd was protected with white paint, though it has now been restored.

In Manhattan, the Black Lives Matter street mural outside the Trump Tower has been erected four times, despite just being completed on July 9th.
