Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 includes a Skate Trick intervention to honor its Creator

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 will include a classic scam with a new name in honor of the original scam creator. Thutterboarders and fans of the THPS series are likely to be aware of what an air silence or dumbness is, but many may not know the story of the name of this deception. Tony Hawk went on Instagram to announce that, in the upcoming THPS 1 + 2 advertiser, the trick will have a new name.

“For almost 40 years, we have shamelessly referred to this hoax as silent air / catch,” Hawk said on his Instagram today. “Here ‘s the story behind it: around 1981, a dull, local Colton skater named Chris Weddle was a prominent amateur in the competition circuit. The Indy Air had just been created and named so someone proposed that the catch with the front hand should have been known as the ‘Tracker’ air. “

Hawk explained that because Weddle was the first to cheat, the cheat had to get his name. Weddle was often referred to as the “quiet, silent boy,” Hawk said, and so the air became silent. Hawk admitted that he and the other teams went along with the name in naivety, not realizing that Weddle might not have agreed to the name.

“In recent years, some people have reached out to Chris (who still skates) about this scam and the name it has been given,” Hawk said. “He has been very gracious in his response but it is clear that another name would have honored his legacy as he is hearing impaired but has no lack of speech. I asked him last year after I was immersing himself in the origins of deception and he said he would rather have called it the ‘dull’ capture or ‘Wedding’ if given the solution. “Hawk said Weddle’s exact words were “I’m deaf, not dumb.” When players raise THPS 1 + 2, they will discover that the hoax is now called Grab Weddle.

“It will be challenging to say the habit and say the old name, but I think Chris deserves recognition.”

You can perform Weddle Grab yourself on THPS 1 + 2 this Friday when Demo Warehouse goes live on August 14th. Be sure to check out our reviews THPS 1 + 2 Warehosue Demo while you wait for the demo to go live.
