[Spoiler warning for season 2 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’]
The end of season 2 represents quite the turning point regarding Pope Hargreeves
Towards the end of the second season, Reginald Hargreeves pulls a face mask – in one Mission Impossible– quiet fashion – reveal a head of alien type, a kind of wet head and amphibian. In other words, it becomes quite clear that Sir Reginald Hargreeves is not a man at all. Is he from another planet? If so, which one?
Is Reginald Hargreeves working independently, or has he been sent from outer space on a mission to gather data, and gather a group of heroes for a low motive beyond altruism and the preservation of humanity?

‘Umbrella Academy’ talks about revealing at Reginald Hargreeves in season 2
During an interview with ETonline, members of Umbrella Academy cast answered questions about Reginald and who he might be. When asked if he is a foreigner, Ellen Page replied:
Looks like he might be. That seems to be the case. I absolutely love that twist and how it was done. The thing is you have to pull in a way that they feel rounded and really affect you.

Robert Sheehan has not hesitated to claim that Reginald Hargreeves is an outsider. He declared:
Of course it is. I did not think they would go to that foreign word with foreign space. But I go “Yes, baby!” We got the nice audience now, let’s prepare it, let’s go a little into a graphic novel.
Kasti also explained what they think the plan is for season 3, especially with concern about this surprising turn. David Castañeda, who plays Diego, explained that he believes season 3 will “dive in” Reginald and shed some light.
Aidan Gallagher (number 5) explains that the show is likely to keep more of a secret than they reveal, dropping a few hints and “Easter eggs” without ever giving the full picture, which looks like a writers’ move after show.
Gallagher explains that it will be enough for the fans to catch on, but not so much as the motive and reason for the character’s existence comes to light. In short, season 3 may ask more questions about Reginald than it answers, as Gallagher explains.
