Shares of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) rose 5.4% on Wednesday as excitement builds on the discovery of the tech titanium’s next product.
On Tuesday, Nvidia announced a “GeForce special event” on September 1, during which CEO Jensen Huang will talk about “the latest chipmaker innovations in games and graphics”. Meanwhile, the website for the event promises to reveal “the greatest advances in PC gaming since 1999”.
1999 was the year Nvidia introduced the first GeForce graphics processing unit for the gaming market. It was considered a major development for the industry, as it helped to make high-end graphics capabilities affordable for many more people.
Analysts say the next-generation graphic chips debut could trigger a new update cycle, which should boost growth for Nvidia and other peers Advanced Micro Devices.
Rumors are eroding among players and industry experts ahead of the Nvidia event. As expectations between its customers and shareholders grow as well, Nvidia will have to discover something special. Perhaps management will provide more hints of what will come when Nvidia reports second-quarter results and holds its earnings conference call after the market closes on August 19th.
