Xbox boss in PlayStation 5 design physics

When designing the look of a video game console, engineers must account for a significant number of variables. Key among these is the heat, and it sounds like it was an even bigger issue for the next generation of consoles: Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke at that point during an Animal interview with Gary Whitta yesterday.

Spencer revealed that he seemed to sympathize with Sony engineers because he understands the difficulties of working with the computer device on the PlayStation 5. So we built a model of the tracking function so we could draw a lot of air with a big fan spinning a little slower, so we did not get those weird hoist sounds that can sometimes make keyboards. “

The PlayStation 5 can handle more heat

Sony has also indicated that it is concerned about producing a smooth keyboard. This was certainly an even bigger challenge for the PlayStation 5 because Sony and AMD displayed clock speed on the GPU. While the Xbox Series X has 52 computing units running at 1,825 GHz, the PS5 is going with 36 CUs that can be revoked up to 2.23GHz. These are extremely fast speeds for a GPU, and it is likely that this will produce much more CPU heat.

Spencer acknowledged this.

“So knowing that the PlayStation 5 is running at higher hours just creates more [heat], ”He said. “But this is not a Sony problem.”

This is one of the reasons the PS5 is gigantic compared to most other consoles. Also possibly why the disc is turned off on the side (just like it is on the Xbox Series X).

If the higher clocks on the PS5 GPU produce extra heat, then the system needs a central space pillar to push in lots of fresh air. This is an equally valuable solution to what Microsoft did, which is to create a box that can hold a single larger fan.

Spencer says he is a fan of what Sony came up with.

“I like the pattern of what they did,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for what teams do on the PlayStation. But they’re running their box differently from us, and that creates unique design challenges in the way you keep these things fresh. That ‘s a problem for both, “So he’s not a friend. And they took an approach that is different from what we did.”
