The San Diego Padres won the first baseman Yonder Alonso in a trade with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
Padres will send money to the Braves to finalize the deal.
Alonso, the brother-in-law of Padre’s third baseman, Manny Machado, returns to San Diego, where he played from 2012 to 2015. also the city where Machado and Alonso’s sister make their home outside.
“I’m definitely excited to have my brother – in – law finally on the same team,” Machado said on Tuesday after Padres beat the Dodgers 6-2.
Alonso was on the Braves limited list as he did not report on their alternative training site. He will report on the Padres alternative site at the University of San Diego.
